What is the difference between an M-rated helmet and an SA-rated helmet?
The Snell Foundation tests and rates helmets for safety. A Snell M-rated helmet is for motorcycles. Snell SA-rated helmets are for auto racing. The SA helmet is designed to protect the head from multiple impacts against the rollbar. An SA rated helmet also has to pass a flammability test, while the M helmet does not. The M allows for a larger opening for the eyes than the SA.
